Key Use Cases
Tools in Detail
INCA
Industry-standard measurement and calibration software. Used by virtually every OEM for powertrain calibration - supports XCP/CCP protocols, A2L files, hex/S-record editing, and multi-ECU simultaneous access.
INCA-FLOW
Automated calibration workflow manager that integrates with INCA. Enables repeatable calibration processes with scripted sequences, reducing calibration time from weeks to days.
MDA (Measure Data Analyzer)
Post-processing tool for analyzing measurement data recorded by INCA. Provides signal comparison, statistical analysis, and report generation for calibration validation.
ISOLAR-A/B
AUTOSAR configuration toolchain. ISOLAR-A handles application layer design (SWC, ports, interfaces) while ISOLAR-B configures BSW modules - an alternative to Vector DaVinci.
RTA-OS
Production-quality AUTOSAR-compliant real-time operating system. OSEK/AUTOSAR OS certified to ISO 26262 ASIL D, used in safety-critical ECU production projects worldwide.
RTA-BSW
Complete AUTOSAR Basic Software stack including COM, DCM, DEM, NvM, and memory stacks. Pre-configured and tested for rapid integration into production ECU projects.
EHOOKS
Bypass and function development tool that enables rapid prototyping by hooking into existing ECU software. Allows calibration engineers to modify ECU behavior without reflashing.
ES891
Compact ETK (ECU Test and Calibration) module providing high-bandwidth access to ECU internal variables via the debug interface. Supports XCP-on-Ethernet for maximum throughput.
ES910
Flexible prototyping module that connects between the ECU and its harness. Enables signal manipulation, bypass functions, and additional I/O for prototype development.
FETK
Fast ETK module for high-speed measurement access. Connects directly to the microcontroller's debug port (DAP/JTAG), providing non-intrusive real-time variable access.
Industry Context
Calibration is where control algorithms meet physical reality. A perfectly designed engine controller is worthless without months of calibration - tuning thousands of parameters across all operating conditions to optimize performance, emissions, fuel economy, and drivability. ETAS INCA is the tool calibration engineers live in daily. The ETAS ecosystem's strength lies in this calibration-centric workflow, combined with a complete AUTOSAR stack (RTA-OS, RTA-BSW) powering millions of Bosch and third-party ECUs in production worldwide.
Typical Workflow
A typical ETAS workflow starts with AUTOSAR architecture in ISOLAR-A, then BSW configuration in ISOLAR-B. RTA-OS and RTA-BSW provide the production stack. During calibration, engineers connect via ES891/ES910/FETK hardware and use INCA for interactive measurement and calibration. INCA-FLOW automates repetitive sequences, MDA provides offline analysis. EHOOKS enables rapid prototyping by modifying running ECU software. Calibration data is managed through version-controlled datasets in INCA.
Selection Guide
Pro Tips
Master A2L file structure - understanding how A2L maps ECU variables to memory is fundamental to INCA usage.
Save INCA experiment environments to preserve dashboard and measurement configurations.
Start map calibration at coarse resolution and refine - don't try to calibrate a 16x16 map point-by-point.
EHOOKS bypass requires deep understanding of ECU software architecture - work closely with the software team.
Validate ISOLAR-B configuration against the ECU Extract early and often - configuration mismatches are the #1 integration issue.
